In my case, the shorter menstrual cycle was related to thyroid issues (T3). After addding the right carbs at the right time my cycle went back to 30+ and I slept better as well.

I'm also thinking hormones. Have you have a hormone panel done? Spotting can be a sign of excess estrogen (or lack of progesterone) and that can certainly feed into cravings.
