Hi

Does having a healthy gut flora decrease the need for calories as i thought i saw the user 'Dragonfly' say something similar to this, hence which interested me to post this question for further reasoning?

Any truth in this, and if so, why?

Thanks

yeah the bacteria take food that is indigestible to us (or goes undigested at first), ferments it creating pools of volatile fatty acids which are then reabsorbed by the large intestine and used by us for energy. here's a relevant study http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6834773
