Anybody been able to hack a low sex drive with paleo? How did you do it?

While I'm glad for you have you considered it may have nothing to do with supplementation? People tend to think for whatever reason you should want sex all day everyday... That is very untrue, sex drive varies all the time going up and down up and down. I'm a 27 year old guy with a long term girlfriend and honestly we may go a week to 10 days without having sex and then the following week we may have sex 15 times in 3 or 4 day span. Sex drive is dynamic not static remember that

You should get a full hormone panel just to see where you are at. That will give you an idea on which direction to go

Ha! I've got no problem with that at all, since I have almost no sex drive. Personally, I think my hormones are a mess.

Thanks, paint. I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out. I've been doing paleo autoimmune for about three months, and the last two weeks, I've been on a Whole 30 (plus autoimmune limitations). The process has been great, but so overwhelming that I just haven't had the mental energy to begin tracking my fat/protein/carb ratio. I think that's the next step for me.

I am in ketosis (I know this via test strips), though I am mostly burning my own fat, I think! I've still got about 20 lbs. to lose.

Thanks RoyalMarine. I think I'm not eating enough fat. I haven't tracked my fat/carb/protein ration, but I'm guessing its higher on protein than fat. I'll try this.

Yup, fat is the substrate from which cholesterol is made, and cholesterol is the substrate from which (most) hormones are made.

You need to ensure you have enough cholesterol to make the sex hormones, so this means eating lots of good quality saturated fat. So coconut oil, grassfed butter, red palm oil, cocoa butter (if you can afford it), EVOO, egg yolks, etc. Consuming a bit of liver or other organ meats is also a good thing.

Next, you need to make sure your stress levels are low (and you get plenty of restful sleep), otherwise, the core issue is the pregnenolone steal.

If you're male (might work on females, not sure, but you'd need very small amounts), you might try to supplement with tribulus terrestris and/or togkat ali (aka longjack) - these can signal testosterone production. You'd want to make sure you have enough zinc, so supplement a chelated form of zinc (but don't over do it), and make sure at the other end, you have some copper to balance it out. Also ensure enough magnesium, iodine, potassium, etc.

If your DHEA levels are low, you could supplement with it, but the trouble is it can be converted to anything, so you need to sort of drive it into the right place.

Basically, if you're healthy, you'll have a good sex drive. If you're unhealthy, you won't.

UPDATE: I'm answering my own question here, but I'm thankful to report that the problem seems to be solved. Recent changes include taking D3 supplements (I was tested as low in D), taking high doses of sublingual B12 (doc thinks I was low), and continuing magnesium supplementation. Not sure which of these helped (I suspect maybe the D3), but I'm grateful.

I don't mean to be crude or obtuse here, but do you masturbate more than the average woman? When I was single and didn't have a sexual partner I think too much "one player gaming" can desensitise you and dramatically lower it too.

Give up masturbation for 90 days, thats a new take on the rob wolf second hand car salesman pitch gig. Se how you feel. Keto plus no masturbation means I feel 16 again, which is great. Although I warn you its a harder habit to break than cocaine, krispy creme and the sopranos rolled into one!

Good luck :)

High fat no carbs stressed my adrenals out quite noticeably which resulted in elevated cortisol which was shown in a blood test. Since eating a much more balanced diet with 45% fat/30% carbs/25% protein I feel relaxed and not stressed

I am a few days into ketogenic dieting and I must say I am perpetually horny. I think its all the fat. WHen I was vegan I had a crappy libido.
