Can paleo clear up acne?

It does seem whenever I eat bad foods I sometimes get an outbreak of acne. I think slowly maybe my acne is improving but I want to know if I can clear it up for good with Paleo or if there is any other stuff people know.

YES! I don't know which aspect did it for me but I'm thinking sugar or dairy or both :)

Mine's practically gone. I am more sensitive now. Drinking too much, any gluten, too much sugar -- breakouts happen. This tells me that I still have a decently high amount of general inflammation and manifestation of that inflammation arises easily upon aggravation. Hopefully with time this will change. It helps keep me strict though.

Those of you who had experience with acne, would you mind sharing your experiences and tips here? http://www.paleoforlife.org/success/acne We're trying to collect all the anecdotes and compile them into a useful repository. Your help is much appreciated!

Hear hear! Once people have stopped eating obvious "bad" food and made a few Paleo diet adjustments, there are *so* many quick wins to be had by making Paleo lifestyle adjustments (sleep, exercise etc.) without getting too caught up in nutritionism.

Absolutely. I used to have wretched skin (three prescription acne meds wretched); now I only break out after a non-optimal meal or when I'm under insane amounts of stress.

Because a lot of acne is related to stress and hormones, just eating paleo won't be enough; you need stress reduction and lots of sleep to help dial that last bit in.

I had very bad cystic acne for years and tried and abandoned all of the pharmaceuticals prescribed by the doc. What cleared mine up was Vitamin D supplements and almost 100% elimination of Industrial Oils and Sugar. I still drink heavy cream and eat butter almost daily, and have cheese occasionally. So in my case, Dairy was not the villain. But I can pretty much guarantee a break out if I eat meat fried in a restaurant oil, or eat a very high sugar dessert.

for acne look into acneeinstein.org, this man is amazing. I follow 99% of what he said, basically paleo and some supplements (you must read a lot!!!!) and am getting better. Also do not use make up. When I cut make up, all my red marks that usually fade for 6 months to a year started to fade for 3 to 4 weeks and my face cleared up. It did get worse before it got bette.r

It did not clear mine up but it helps. I echo the zinc and D3 and would put in a plug for niacinamide (topically or orally) as well. That is my holy trinity.

Primal, zinc and vitamin d supplements, very little cheese or yogurt (lots of cream and butter though) and my skin is finally clear.

The third book by Loren Cordain is called The Dietary Cure for Acne. I have not read it, but would imagine he recommends a diet similar to in his other two books. Maybe you should look into it.

I found that my skin was noticeably better after dropping dairy.
