Eating Duck Liver All Week?

Commented on March 11, 2014

So on Saturday I buy some Duck Liver Pate from the farmer's market and eat it throughout the week. Most people say to only have liver once/week, but is there any harm in spacing out ~1/2 cup of liver throughout the week?

Thanks!!

I know that feel. I've been on a Pâté rampage lately lol. Wow, that stuff is good. I make mine using some kind of rendered down animal fat like lard, duck fat, schmaltz, clarified butter or something similar and let me tell you....it is delicious.

Cool thanks...no cod liver oil or Retinol for me so I think I should be set. I'll check into Campagne but I wanted one with mostly liver since offal was the main thing missing in my diet.

1/2 cup? No harm in that at all, specially since it's liver from fowl. I have been eating 1 pound worth of chicken liver in the form of home made pate this week, it was amazing. Last week I had some pork liver pate nearly every day of the week. I do have to warn you however, that if you are at risk for gout, you should tread lightly and not make it a daily thing. Also, if you are consuming cod liver oil or some other Retinol (vitamin A) supplementation, you should stop, liver already has a huge amount of Vitamin A, add to that a supplement and you could easily go into hypervitaminosis A territory, which is not very fun. Other than that, eat up, Pate is amazing. By the way, may I suggest Pâté de Campagne? It's more meat than liver so you should have even less to worry about.

Eat a varied diet. That said, that amount of liver (1/2 cup) over multiple days is not an issue.
