I take supplement iron pills for breakfast and the only way (that I know and have used) is to drink it with a tiny box of juice, so I can't taste it. I have tried a few times to drink water, but I just don't like water in the morning (is that... (more)
I like to snack on carrots, maybe eating 1 or 2 a few times a week. From what I've read, eating 3 a day for an extended period will turn you orange. Looking up a vegetable juice recipe (bruce lee's), I see it calls for 2lbs of carrots. 2... (more)
Hey everyone, I have been thinking about staring green juicing and I know there are mixed feelings on this in the paleo community. I have been paleo for about 6 months and don't plan on going back to the dark side. Over the past 18 months I have... (more)
Hi all, just curious as to what the difference of GREEN juice fasting (no fruits) versus fat fasting...? Would it provide the same fat loss results? I've heard great things about people doing juice fasts and keeping the weight off long term as... (more)
I know, I know, juice is processed food. But, first of all, it is minimally processed, and, most importantly, I am doing it to heal my gastritis - I went off PPI and I am trying out that cabbage juice theory. So, every time I drink cabbage juice,... (more)
Recently I have bought a juicer and today I have tried it out. I made a special blend - parsley, beet greens, arugula, spinach, ginger and 3 medium beets. All three cups were awfully bitter because of greens. I had a hard time finishing them. So... (more)
I know we don't recommend drinking our calories. but as i haven't been getting a healthy variety of vegetables in my diet. does juicing your veggies still allow us to get a lot of our vitamins naturally or is most of that lost in the pulp..?
Well, not technically squeezed: I vitamixed (super blendered): 2 whole valen. oranges (just removed the orange outer part, but whole oranges went in the blender). 2 frozen banana, 3oz frozen blueberries. I added ice & water and blended... (more)
This is a topic I got into a few weeks ago, it's pretty cool. I gotta start with a comparison so the differences are pointed out. And well, I find it super neat: Juice from lemons and limes can sit for about 4 hours before the flavour begins to... (more)
I'm curious, who saves the water from steamed vegetables to drink later? When I steam either kale or collard greens, I tend to throw away the water below the collapsible steamer. I'm thinking, perhaps it's a good idea to save the greenish water... (more)
Does anyone know what can be done for the horrible desire to drink a soda? or at the very least some juice? I don't really like fruit so that isn't an option. Or where there is at least some somewhat paleo friendly juice? In addition does anyone... (more)
So I've been wondering are the "Green Machine" drinks by Naked Juice Paleo? From what I can tell, they're only fruit and veggie juice. I wasn't sure how "Paleo" these are, or if a home-made comparable drink would be. I'm mostly unsure, just... (more)
I have made many batches of sauerkraut before and all of them have turned out fine, but the batch I made about a day ago is a little gooey. I'm not sure if adding onion is the reason why, but this is the first time I'v done that. I know its still... (more)
Mine gets gooey sometimes, too, with the cabbage basically disintegrating. I attribute it to not enough salt. When it happens to me it can't be recovered. I wouldn't risk eating it.
I have some cucumbers fermenting and wondering if the leftover juice has any health benefits? Will the bacteria in the liquid have a probiotic effect similar to kefir? Also does the bacteria in the pickles have any noticeable probiotic effect... (more)
No only is it rich in beneficial bacteria, it tastes like the pickles that fermented in it, and it is really good for your skin(applied topically)! A friend of mine who owns a sauerkraut business locally sells the brine in pint jars for nearly as... (more)
Hi there, sauerkraut juice contains a lot of lactic acid, some salt and hopefully very dedicated bacteria strains. But whenever I drink a small cup of it, it punches my gut like it was fermented by chuck norris himself... Does the body... (more)
It's classic 'die-off' (read Herxheimer reaction) from dead yeast and bacterial cells as they pass through the body. You're just killing off some critters, and as they die they release endotoxins which can make you feel ill. The gut reacts with... (more)
forgive me if i'm simplifying far too much... but being paleo / living in ketosis for much of each week (I'm a little relaxed on wkends w/healthy carbs (tubers))... i started wondering... Is a juice fast pointless - or counter-intuitive for... (more)
I have been trying to eat eggshells as a good way of getting more calcium into my diet, as well as lots of other minerals which eggshells are rich in. I have been thoroughly washing the shells, drying them, grinding them in a small processor sort... (more)
I don't, personally, but from what I hear, cowboys used to drop the eggshells in their coffee pots to extract the calcium into their morning coffee. Just something to consider; you don't necessarily have to consume them whole.
I see many people claiming benefits from consuming orange juice, so it seems like this Peat craze is really catching on. Anyways what have your experiences with it been? Have your triglycerides climbed, do you have more energy, did you gain... (more)
I do not. I love real oranges, yet I only have the real fruit, not the juice. I think having too much fructose is not good for your health, and orange juice has lots of fructose!
My (paleo) nutritionist suggested I start taking aloe juice to help with constipation... Im on the leptin reset protocol right now. Not sure if its a no go, or a go.. or a go period.. Anyone use it?
I'm thinking of getting the Breville Juicer ($100) on Amazon. It is the #1 juicer on Amazon. If I got it, is there a cheap way of juicing? Also, does anyone have any book recommendations on juicing?
I have an extraction juicer (taking out most of the vegetable "meat" - unlike a blender or a VitaMix type process) and thought this might be a good way of getting additional nutrients from vegetables I don't readily like to prepare or eat. Now, I... (more)
