So I know that, if conventional meats must be consumed, you should go for the least fatty cut as possible. I just got a dehydrator and want to make my own jerky. The only problem is that jerky is best with very lean meat and my grassfed beef is... (more)
I'm going on vacation to Italy where eggs for breakfast is basically unheard of. I'm going to be on the move constantly, so I planned to bring a bunch of Steve's Paleostix with me to eat in the mornings when I'm used to having protein. The problem... (more)
Have any of you guys tried this brand before? I just tried their Cherry BBQ pork one and am blown away. To be honest, I've never had jerky before (I wasn't a huge meat eater before going Paleo, so the idea of dried meat kind of skeeved me out)... (more)
Has anyone heard of theboslife.com ? I've seen them recently on Your Lighter Side, http://yourlighterside.com/2013/10/tasty-high-protein-snacks/ They sell a monthly box of grassfed beef and other meats and have a cool description of where they... (more)
I am looking for a really good Paleo marinade for Beef Jerky. I recently mad my own soy sauce with 1 part balsamic vinegar, one part roasted sesame oil, and 2parts fish sauce. It's really good and I am wondering if it would work as a marinade for... (more)
Just starting out and I travel most days, where can I find and what brand name is the best jerky to purchase. We have Whole foods, Trader Joe's and Costco close by, suggestions?
I can't find salmon jerky at any health food store or online that doesn't have ANY form of sweetener added, as well a wheat/soy. It also needs to be gluten free. I'm just looking for salmon - salt - spices. Does anyone know of a brand that sells... (more)
I've been buying Kale chips and raw 'cookies' ( dehydrated veggies plus flax seeds) and thinking of making them myself by buying a dehydrator so I can have some nice snacks on the go and then I asked myself 'Does it make sense to dehydrate?'... (more)
I have to spend 2 months out in the field doing a mixture of hiking and hitting up small towns in rural South America for my research. I'm planning on using it as an opportunity to REALLY get paleo, like as in, maybe not even bring shampoo or... (more)
Im a bit confused about this issue. So the point of going to all the laborious trouble of making pemmican is to separate the fat so it doesn't go rancid, render it to oil, and add it back. But if the fat goes rancid in the first place, what... (more)
I finally bought a dehydrator (nesco 1000 watts) and I've been making jerky all weekend: beef flank shaved thin, with a touch of sea salt (yum!) ground beef jerky with sea salt, garam masala and apple cider vinegar wild salmon, also with a tough... (more)

Does anyone have experience making beef liver jerky? I was initially thinking of mixing half ground beef and half ground liver but thought maybe it is possible to do all liver. Would it taste like a dog treat? Do dog treats taste good? Thanks (more)
http://paleofood.com/jerky.htm Has anyone ever tried a Pemmican Only diet for a month or more? What would be the repercussions of doing this? Also wouldn't the tallow provide a lot of nutrients that the lean meat lacks? (more)
Do you all eat Salmon jerky as a snack? If so, then can you recommend a good source? It needs to be gluten free by ingredients at least for me. Not too high in sodium. Needs to be not fishy. Something pemmican-like would be ok if it meets these... (more)
I shoot quite a bit of wild game, and one of my favorite things to do is just soak it in a brine of water and tenderquick. With a smoker, it makes pheasants taste like ham. Makes deer taste like I would imagine Jerky tasted like in the wild west.... (more)
I'm researching food dehydrators right now, and one offers a "jerky gun" as an accessory, but no description is listed of this mysterious device. It looks a little like a caulking gun.
I saw the "Beef Jerky How-To" thread but I wanted to get a little more specific with what people are using as seasonings and marinades for their beef jerky. I'm starting to turn some heads toward paleo with some good batches of grass fed london... (more)

I could not find anywhere that sells beef jerky that's gluten-free (no soy sauce). The ones that are gluten-free have sugars and don't taste very good. So, I'd like to try making jerky and dried fruits at home. Thank you.
I use my oven at 200 degrees as a dehydrator.
