Fermented Cod Liver Oil and Fatigue/Relaxation

Answered on August 19, 2014

Im trying to narrow down an effect Ive been experiencing as of late. Ive been taking two gel caps of fermented cod liver oil on certain days that seems to coincide with a very relaxed and low energy state.

I normally sleep 6.5-7.5 hours per night but I am regular able to sleep 9++ around the time I have taken the FCLO.

So have you noticed this after taking FCLO (Blue Ice, AKA Green Pasture)?

I considered that but Ive have my 25 hydroxy levels tested above 55ng/dl in the last year and i eat grass fed liver (raw) once per week, which has way more vitamin A.

Do you take the Green Pasture stuff? As far as I know, it's the only CBO/CLO that is fermented. I know from past experience that I feel much better on that than on other regular CLOs.

You know that dull, out-of-it feeling you get when you have a 104 degree fever? That is exactly how I felt when I took a teaspoon of FCLO. I got so mentally fatigued and sleepy that I had NO CHOICE but to go lay down. Within minutes I was asleep...or so I thought. I had these dreams of of being to heavy to move and just standing and wobbling one way or the other.

I had taken nothing else but the FCLO and I felt fine just before I took it. To rule out a coincidence I took it again a week later to the same effect...

Forget FCLO. Just eat fish.

I found this comment/post over at the greenpasture web site with some info that may be relevant;

Comment on why different reactions to taking oils by Dave Wetzel

....People do have a variety of reactions or observations taking oils. Here is one of my Email replies to this question. This person indicated that she feels sluggish or in general does not do as well taking the fclo.

"All are different, many get the opposite reaction. Strength stamina, euphoria etc...are common traits when taking FCLO.

Some might be better matched taking the skate liver oil rather than FCLO. The fclo is catabolic, the skate and butter oil are anabolic. So some will do better on some oils than others. Plus some will do better taking at night vs the day. some do best taking a combo of all three. We are not all created the same and we have different needs etc...."

I just started taking the Green Pastures fermented cod liver oil caps and high vitamin butter caps, and I have noticed a huge reduction in swelling and a huge increase in urination. Nothing else has changed, food or water consumption levels. I am 6 months pregnant, and my ankles had been a bit swollen before, but I thought that this weird flushing didn't really make sense.

I do take them at night with dinner and I have felt a little bit extra sleepy, but didn't consider that in light of the huge change in swelling and water release. It seems odd to me that two little caps of these things could have either of these affects, especially being such a small portion of my daily intake in terms of calories and quantity. Through the day, however, I feel increased energy, so maybe taking at night would help, otherwise the website's option of skate oil? I take my magnesium at night for the same reason.

I found this page after investigating whether anyone else has experienced an extremely low energy state after taking 2 gel caps of FCLO over a period of time. "Low energy state" may be an understatement, I literally have to go lay down on the days I take FCLO whether I take it in the am or pm.

Thank you to Paleohacks and to those who posted.
