Just started the paleo lifestyle this week on day 4 now, just wondered will I lose weight doing this, my BMW is 27 so I do need to lose weight, I'm a 22 year old female. I see it works for men but wondered if there was any difference for women? Also can you have olive oil/extra virgin olive oil in any amount or should you limit it to now and again? My main concern is I track everything I eat and it seems I'm eating about 20/30gmore of fat everyday than is recommended is this ok for weight loss if I follow paleo correctly? Around60-90g fat per day Around 100g+ protein per day Are these amounts ok?

I eat about 50-75g of carbs, 60-80 g of protein and 60-92 g of fat per {average} day. I've been losing weight steadily for a few months now.

I actually do better when I'm actively trying to add MORE fat! Experiment to see what works for you, though--I do great adding homemade mayo (made with olive oil), avocado, coconut oil, but the minute I start eating too many nuts, I gain or at least stop losing.

I'm a woman and lost 25 lbs of normal weight, plus another 25/30 of baby weight, doing paleo/primal in my late 30s. I can't comment on ratios, because I've never tracked. But, I can say that women, too, can lose weight eating this way.

EVOO and coconut oil are wise choices. Your body needs fat! A small amount of walnuts, macadamia nuts are great sources, too.

Personally, I like doing 1g protein per pound of body weight because it's EASY. Sometimes I get less (104 yesterday) sometimes more. I don't usually get more unless I'm lifting. For general resistance/ strength training, I don't need more.

As to fat amounts, it differs for every body. People who go low carb or very low carb (LC or VLC, respectively) work on changing their body so it burns fat rather than carbs (simplified -- you can read up on this).

I'd keep no more than 1/4C nuts a day (raw, not roasted or processed in junk) and maybe 1T healthy oil with each meal -- at least! Again, you may do better with more or you may choose to go ketogenic. I find that's too hard to stick with for more than a few weeks BUT it will shed fat. The problem is my mind doesn't like it and I stray and once I stray, it's very hard to get back on that wagon. I just don't like it, even if it keeps me slimmer.

I'd rather be fatter and happier in general (I have autoimmune; I have many other restrictions that paleo/ primal in general doesn't have ... if I can't eat tomatoes, oranges garlic, etc., I'm not too picky about doing some sugar or booze -- it's a choice. I'd be healthier without them, for sure!).

I've lost stacks of weight on the paleo diet within weeks of starting it, I'm not even overweight just trying to get healthier. Don't stress about the increase in fat you're body seems to use more of it than it does carbohydrates/sugars, much of which ends up getting stored as fat. You'll find that dropping the number of carbs you eat will have a huge effect on weight loss and the increase in fats will fill you up so that you don't feel the need to binge on carbs in the first place. Just give it 30 day, commit to it properly and see how you go. I'm sure you'll experience positive results!
