Hack my feeling in the chest after eating a fatty meal

Hi

I'm 16 years old and I had a large grass fed steak with fat and also took my father's steak's fat because he hates it but can't get enough of the taste of fat :3. But afterwards for the first time i felt funny in the chest, like a uncomfortable feeling but no pain.

Today we visited my uncle's and I love chicken skin so I ate that and all the fatty drippings off the chicken. I feel the same as I did yesterday but slightly worse and it's worrying me.

I'm too young to have a heart attack or similar right ...? :(

yes, I was also going to mention gall bladder too. I had the same thing happen to me but with bacon. The pain was so bad I could barely breathe. I thought I was having a heart attack, but luckily I wasn't. When I told my mom what had happened, she finally mentioned our family has a history of this. Once going on paleo my symptoms have subsided but I still have to be careful about my animal fat intake.

You need to see a doctor either way. Paleo hacks is not the place for treating a potentially deadly issue.

WTF is this "advice" in the OP? Just because someone is 16 and on paleo doesn't mean they can't have a heart attack, or have symptoms of an existing heart condition. It's "advice" like this from laymen which gets people killed, and why this site is NOT a substitute for doctor's advice. I'm seriously pissed now *bangs head on the wall*

Nope I don't live in Canada! I'm an Aussie :) . My diet previously to this was sugary and was based around Asian takeaway, so I'd say definately low fat high carb, but I've been paleo for about 4 months.

Wow! I'm pretty sold on the whole Paleo concept but to simply dismiss possibly serious symptoms based on one's adherance to the paleo-dogma seems like your just asking for trouble. If it's serious enough for him to ask then unless you have specific knowledge regarding the question it seems dangerous to say "...on a Paleo diet... you don't have to worry about SAD problems like heart attacks." I'd hate to think someone with some congenital heart problem or who is otherwise on one end of the spectrum of the bell-curve might ignore sypmtoms because they are *Paleo.*

@ambrews: of course it doesn't remove the possibility, but one's far, far less likely to have one on an ancestral diet. And that goes double for someone at age 16. @perseverance: try some self-experimenting. Does it happen when you eat a large meal with only a small amount of fat? A small one that's mostly fat? A large one on a rest day? Of course if you can't figure out its cause, and if it's painful, you should see a physician.

Paleo does not remove the chance of a heart attack, there are lots of reasons you could have one. It's not likely that is his problem, but he should see a doctor if he is at all concerned. Could be gall bladder or just indigestion, which can feel like heart issues.

thanks! :D it's just an unomfortable feeling like I need to breath more, I just spoke to my dad about it and he reckons it could be because after eating a big meal it puts pressure there and it's a bit sensitive from exerciising ( i did play wii boxing for an hour yesterday so i might have injured myself? :P )

Simplest answer, you overate. Overeating on a heavy fat meal can cause this sensation. When it digests, you'll feel better.

Don't hesitate to see a doctor if this is worrying you.

To me, it sounds like indigestion. You can feel pressure in the chest, maybe a slight burning (maybe not), maybe a little bit short of breath... If you eat a ton of food this is more likely.

could be gall bladder issues after a fatty meal. im no doc so why dont you read up on this and see if it is in the differential diagnosis.

You need to seek a Dr. regarding this.

You are most likely 99.9999999% too young to have an MI (blockage), but, somethings wrong if your having chest pain at 16. It could be a number of things.

Go to the Dr.

Wow I didn't know there were other 16 year olds on this site. Furthermore, I have got those chest pains when I feel I have overate. Previously I was raw vegan. What was you diet like previous to Paleo? Do you live in Canada?

Psychological? You're eating "bad" (in a conventional sense) fat and maybe you're imagining chest pain as you make the "fat = heart attack" connection.

Ask your dad if he salted the steaks or what spices he placed on them... Too much salt or some spice could be the culprit.

Sounds like overeating and maybe a little low-grade heartburn. Take it easy for a couple days. eat slightly smaller meals. if the feeling persists or gets worse, or if you feel short of breath or have pain radiating to your back, jaw or down one arm, see a doctor.

A seemingly-healthy, non-morbidly-obese teenage girl who is not abusing drugs has a near-zero chance of having a heart attack, but that doesn't mean nothing is wrong.

Hey, relax. At age 16, and on a Paleo diet, no less, you don't have to worry about SAD problems like heart attacks. Can you describe the feeling further? Where does it hurt? Does this happen every time you eat animal fat (two times a causation doth not make)? Love your name, by the way.
