Endurance Meal/Prep

I'm not the endurance type but I'm signed up for Warrior Dash at the end of the month. Just curious to see how it goes.

I remember back in my High Schools days that carb loading was the best way to prepare for any type of athletic competition.

What's the paleo way to eat prior to an endurance event? I don't run until 3pm.

Thanks - this exactly what I was looking for. And it is indeed a 5k.

My Thoughts:

  1. Carb Loading is not necessary if you are eating sufficient carbs for your activity level.
  2. I do not like to do any endurance exercise while stuffed. So I try to eat a small meal 4-5 hours before the race, then a banana ~90 minutes before race.
  3. Warrior Dash is usually a 5K right? You will complete well under 90 minutes, likely under 60 so fuel during the race should not be a concern as long as you maintain a good diet leading up to the event.
  4. Do not drink a lot of water. As long as you stay hydrated before the race you should not need anything during the race -- other than a small sip at one of the stations
