Egg Whites Questions
Hi!The Honest Food Company is a small enterprise with big dreams looking to service the Paleo community. They specialise in raw real-food protein bars and shakes. All of their food is grain-free, dairy-free, and contains no added sugar. They are... (more)
So I'm ready to make some home made Mayo. I finally found a common store brand (I think it was Kraft) that used mostly olive oil, but still has bad stuff, including PUFA. But that's not what this post is about. In the process, I'm going to... (more)
Jack LaLanne obviously had a massive influence on health & exercise, he was legendary no doubt. Please someone hack his diet, from my (limited) reading he subsisted on fish, brown rice, egg whites, fruit & veg. My curiosity has come from... (more)
Considering the egg whites are mostly water and a little bit of protein, and I only needed to use the white (for instance, a recipe) does it matter if it comes from a conventional egg? They are much cheaper, and they make slushies nice and foamy. (more)
Ok there are similar but not quite same questions. Does anyone have links to good recipes for egg whites? Particularly dessert-y recipes that are pseudo paleo to the extent sugars are somewhat minimized and processed powders along the lines of... (more)
Why do many people outside of the Paleosphere believe that egg yolks are bad? What are some good resources that defend the consumption of whole eggs? Thanks!
I avoid egg whites because of an autoimmune condition, but I can eat the yolks. I've tried to make pancakes and waffles with extra egg yolks, but for some reason, the yolks don't bind the coconut flour well (I can't use almond flour). Any... (more)
I hardboiled a couple of eggs today. After I cooked them I peeled them and set them aside; after they had been resting for a minute or so a green "veiny" looking patch appeared on the outside of one of them. I threw it away, having no idea WTF it... (more)
The egg white contains sulfur and the egg yolk contains iron and when an egg is cooked at a high temp, the two can combine to form ferrous sulfide, which is usually a green ring that shows up in the yolk in an over cooked hard boiled egg. Never... (more)
I love eggs. Well to be more accurate I love egg yolks! I always try and cook eggs over easy or sunny side up. I have been doing this for years so have a general sense of when the egg is "done". Im not sure what it is but lately I have really lost... (more)
FWIW, I think egg safety is a reflection of where the eggs come from. It might be completely unfounded, but I feel a lot safer when eating free range eggs that came from the farm down road then battery eggs from a huge commercial operation.
I've eaten eggs my entire life, but since becoming Paleo over the past year, I've experienced a tenfold upswing in my egg eating. As a part of my routine, I've been eating 5-6 pasture raised eggs purchased from a local farmer. Until recently, I... (more)
I too developed an allergy to egg whites as a result of increased exposure. My solution has been to hard boil them and discard the whites and only eat the yolks. I don't experience any stomach upset this way and I get the feeling that the reduced... (more)
I've heard it stated that lysozyme in eggs causes problems in some people by causing or promoting leaky gut and that these people should avoid eggs. Does this really apply to hard-boiled eggs? Cordain's website references the ability of lysozyme... (more)
Are unfertilized chicken eggs really that paleo? No doubt humans have been eating them for millenia, but... I love eggs. But sometimes I think that they make me feel bad. Other times I think I'm unfairly blaming them. Here's my preliminary... (more)
I know drinking a meal isn't ideal, however, that all important post workout window closes a little to quick, and there is little other way to get in what I need. Would egg white powder be more effective (paleo). New to paleo but dairy seems like... (more)
It might not seem paleo to skip the white, but from my own experience raw egg whites are not pleasant to consume, whereas the yolk is great. Given that we know grok would avoid and even throw away lean meat, it is plausible that grok may have... (more)
I am a bit sensitive to eggs, and want to try "just yolks" to see if that helps any. My question is: what do I do with the whites? Good eggs are expensive where I am, and it seems uber wasteful to just toss em. I wish I had a roommate or family... (more)
Before I went Paleo I would eat a lot of egg-white omelets (more protein/less fat). I have since started buying Omega-3 enriched eggs and usually eat 2 Jumbo or 3 large for breakfast. I got to thinking - where is the Omega-3 concentrated? I... (more)
They are all in the yolk. The whites have no fat at all. But you might not need extra protein from added whites, unless you have a specific reasoning for it.
