Smoothie resulting in digestive upset

I have been having a smoothie daily for a week to change up my eggs and bacon routine. Its delicious and satisfying but after drinking it I have to go to the bathroom immediately. It includes 1 cup of spinach 3/8 cup of macadamia nuts 1/3-1/2 cup of coconut milk shredded, unsweetened coconut A couple of tsp of avocodo A couple of pastured eggs Alcohol free vanilla extract And some coconut oil occasionally. The stomach ache happens like two minutes after drinking it but after going to the bathroom goes away (loose stools).

Well I mainly make it for my sister who is boarderline vegan (unwilling to eat steak, pork, lamb etc.) Were stuck with chicken, occasional ground beef and farmers sausages. This is the only way to get some fat into her.

Perhaps the coco milk and oil. It's obviously not the shake itself that's the loose stool, but I'm sure the shake from the previous day is a part of it. Try singling out each indredient to feel the effects -- maybe 1/2 cup of coco milk alone makes you ache. I experience the same feeling (not loose stool) after my shakes, which are frozen fruits, cinnamon, protein, and some active greens. My guess is that it's the protein powder (whey)...but it's so delicious!

+1 for eating real food; I haven't had a smoothie in months. Also, having spent several years with IBS, "OPNS" gave me a laugh.

Where are you sourcing your coconut milk from?

Carton coconut milk gives me the OMGPOOPNOW Syndrome (OPNS).

Uncooked canned coconut milk does the same, if it's in any major quantity (over 1/2 cup).

Both usually contain considerable amounts of non-Paleo ingredient nasties.

For some reason, I can lay waste to a large pot of curry with a whole can of coconut milk simmered in it and I don't get the issue - but if I just pop a can open and try to make a smoothie with it, I better include some reading material.

Because of this - I gave up drinking smooties altogether. When I eat breakfast, I eat breakfast - usually bacon, eggs, and fresh raw tomatoes.

Maybe all of that coconut oil, milk, avocado and raw egg is like drinking lubricant? You're drinking a fat bomb without enough whole foods to slow it down. Have you tried drinking that along with your bacon and eggs?

It sounds like you have waaay too much coconut in there! Cut that smoothie right in half and then see what happens. I'd be interested to know what, if anything happens differently.

I am a huge fan of smoothies as a lot of you know but they are usually not an entire meal. I make all of mine in a tiny, 20 oz blender. They are usually 12-18 oz and almost always contain water, coconut water, kombucha or coffee.

Sure, I enjoy my 800 calorie smoothies with TONS of fat sometimes but it does not necessarily mean that I feel awesome after it.

Sub some of that fat for carbs like fruit (bananas are best!) or just cut it in half!

That smoothie would do me in!

Google FODMAPs. You have coconut milk, coconut meat & avocado in there. All cause me digestive distress.
