I hope that this post is enough information, and that it's clear enough for someone to kindly respond! Recently I've been interested in starting the GAPS diet in order to treat my allergies (to dust, as well as an exaggerated histamine response), depression, OCD and asperger's, to put my symptoms simply. I have been paleo for 3 years, but I can still tell there are some strange things going on in my system. I don't have many stomach problems now, but when I was young, much of my anxiety was correlated with stomachaches. When I take probiotics (Jarrows) for a couple days in a row, I get very bad die-off symptoms, so I know something is going on. The thing about GAPS is that for a few weeks, I would go without much of the nutrition I get nowadays. It's also not very well studied. So, in terms of doctors/naturopaths/etc, blood tests (within reason), genetic testing, diet, what would be a great way to go farther than paleo, prescription medications, and substances -- something I've been wanting to do for a while? I suspect leaky gut and HPA axis dysfunction. Thank you!

The GAPS diet is derived from the SCD (Specific Carbohydrates Diet) which is THE diet to heal the gut.
There is a major difference between GAPS and SCD. SCD is already proven while GAPS is still in the experimental stage.
SCD has been an established medical procedure since the early part of the 20th century. Data was collected by Dr S.V. Haas and other researchers of that era. Data showing the efficacy of SCD was published in academic journals in both Europe and the US. Later, in her book Elaine Gottschall presented more evidence for SCD.

If the source of your problem is in the gut I would definitely give it a try for a few weeks or months. You will find lots of good information on this website : http://scdlifestyle.com/
