Coconut Oil - Where to buy

Answered on August 19, 2014

Where do you buy coconut oil? I found a recipe for Paleo cookies and it calls for coconut oil. However, I am unsure where to purchase it. When I was purchasing Almond Meal/Flour the local Super Target carried it but Cub Foods did not. I did not see coconut oil at either. Maybe I am looking in the wrong section.

Thanks!

GunK: driving 35 miles to go to a TJ's is commendable, but you could save yourself a tank or two of gas by ordering the same Trader Joe's Coconut Oil here: http://amzn.to/ZnIYud

Try asking an employee if you can't find it in the store. Sometimes things are in weird places I'd never think to look (canned sardines on a shelf in the corner of the fresh fish section, not with canned meats or any other canned stuff is one example of something I had to ask for help finding once). If they don't have it, ask if they can order it for you, or you can order it yourself from Amazon, if nothing else.

I find it at my regular old grocery store (Fry's, which is the same as Kroger and a bunch of other in that chain). It's in the natural/organic foods area! But it is pricey... I have learned to go to Trader Joe's for it.

When purchasing coconut oil will normally have to choose between either refined or unrefined version. The refined version tends to taste less like coconut. IMO the unrefined variation is the way to go and can be used for a million different purposes. Trader Joe's has the best price I have ever found, and sometimes runs a special on it. Definitely worth the drive!

Thank you! This site has been extremely helpful in answering questions. I will check Cub Foods ethnic aisle along with Super Target and Costco.... if not, I did locate a Trader Joe's approx 35 miles from my house. Beats driving to Mpls where there are numerous whole food stores!

The Wal-mart in my town has it. Both Spectrum organic and Lou-Ana.

I have found that Trader Joe's has an excellent unrefined coconut oil, at an amazing price. If you don't have access to a Trader Joe's, you should be able to find it at most, decent, grocery stores, but you are probably going to pay a premium for it.

I am assuming that there is no Whole Foods around you. Sometimes Coconut Oil can be found in the "ethnic food" aisles. Super Target may have an aisle like that, but I am not sure about Cub Foods.

Well if it's there at all it SHOULD be with the rest of the oils (olive, canola, etc.). If you have a Trader Joe's nearby they have their own brand that they should have stocked. My local Costco has even begun selling large tubs of Nutiva coconut oil for ~ $21.
