Starbucks Pumpkin Spice - yay or nay?

Answered on August 19, 2014

I don't do the lattes, but an Americano and with "pumpkin spice."

How "bad" do you think this is? I'm eating 90% paleo and very active, but for fat loss, would this prove to be a bad idea?

Thanks!

I tried the eggnog latte recently and had the same experience -- it tasted nothing like I remembered it tasting. In fact, it tasted downright awful.

Don't forget to put some home made vanilla extract in too and coconut oil. I think I'm gonna go make a cup right now!

I've had this experience too, when I have abstained from an old SAD favorite, then I try it out again, and it is never what I remembered, I keep thinking that something must have changed, it looked and smelled the same, but tasted like crap suddenly. It almost makes me sad but then I am happy that I won't get sucked back into a bad habit.

Ha of course. Not to say you should never treat yourself...but for fat loss? Not so much

I'm wondering if shaking a bit of pumpkin pie spice in a cup of coffee would do the trick. I might try that myself!

Stay away! I thought I would treat myself to one after being pretty strict for a few months and it tasted NOTHING like I remembered. I think I drank maybe a 1/4 of it and then threw the rest down the drain because it was way too sweet and not the version of "pumpkin" that I wanted!

I say nay.

There is nothing at Starbucks that you can't make at home for a fraction of the price and 100 times better.

I would say very bad... But does that stop me from getting a peppermint mocha a couple times a month? Nope :)

They are really high in sugar! This recipe may be a healthier option. I wouldn't say it's paleo but it's definitely a better way to splurge! Hope you enjoy!

Healthy or not, don't you have any non-corporate coffee shops you could support? With today's legislation Starbuck's, just like any other national chain, is abusing tax privileges to literally steal from us working folks.

I swear our entire economic environment is one giant Stockholm Syndrome...

You would be surprised how little of the pumpkin spice you'll need, having been paleo...try 1/2 pump of syrup in a tall and see if that does it for you. If so, I'd say no big deal at all (since three pumps would typically go into the tall latte version).

Up to you. A medium drink has 380 calories, which could put you in excess depending on your diet. http://www.starbucks.com/menu/drinks/espresso/pumpkin-spice-latte#size=183887&milk=63&whip=125
