A few months ago I purchased coconut oil from Amazon. The brand name is "Coco Choice" - Extra Virgin Coconut Oil. They say it's Organic and produced in Sri Lanka. Since I don't live in the US there are many brands like nutiva or others that seem to be safer but I couldn't purchase because of the shipping issue. I managed to buy 3 jars for the price of one. My problem is that this brand is no longer available on amazon (at least I couldn't find it) or in a simple google search. Which makes me doubt if it's safe. This could be a coincidence but my sister got sick . And as a customer I think it's odd that there are no references to this brand on the internet anymore. In the lable it says this site wwww.virgincoconutindustries.com and in the contact section there's an email. (I already contacted them but go no answer so far. In the site it doesn't have the brand I bought, just the Virgin Coconut Oil. Does any one know any side effect from coconut oil? Is there anyone I can contact to know more about this or am I making a big deal out of nothing? (sorry for my english, I'm from Brazil)

I would be skeptical too (I wouldn't eat it either). You English is very good.

If you are new to coconut oil and ingest too much too fast, it can cause a lot of gastrointestinal distress. That doesn't mean anything is wrong with the coconut oil. It should be pure white when solid, clear when liquid, and have a pleasant, Coconutty flavor. If all if the above its probably OK.

Start slow, with no more than 1 tsp/ day and work up to higher amounts slowly.
