Calcium supplementation following thyroid removal

My dad had thyroid cancer about 10 years ago and had his thyroid removed. He currently takes synthroid and atenolol. He feels good and healthy and it's all pretty behind him now.

We were talking today and he mentioned maybe upping his calcium supplementation intake to 1-2 grams a day. I started talking about vitamin K2 and D3, as I personally avoid calcium supplementation and find the 1,000mg+ threshold to be potentially harmful.

Would someone missing a thyroid need to take calcium supplements? How much would be recommended (and with what other co-nutrients) ?
