Why do I suddenly have hiccups when eating turkey bacon?

I've noticed recently then when I sit down to have a nice plate of warm turkey bacon, I get a strong hiccup on my first couple of swallows. This usually stops happening as I continue eating.

Hiccups are not a normal thing for me, since I have excellent diaphragm and breathing control from years of playing wind instruments. The only other time this has happened, was when I would take the first drink from a cold glass of coke or soft drink. But I don't drink soda anymore, so it caught me by surprise.

There could be something to that...

As crazy as it sounds, I actually like the taste of the Oscar Mayer turkey bacon better than the real stuff - and it is also cheaper which sadly plays a factor.

Because turkey bacon is an abomination and the gods are punishing you for eating it.

Because bacon is so good you can't control your speed of consumption, therefore ingesting more air than usual and causing hiccups. :)

I'd check the ingredients. Sounds to me like there's something in it that is causing the problem. Stick with real bacon!

I have the same problem. I get one strong hiccup as soon as I swallow cold soda. sometimes food makes it happen too. Well, at least im glad to know that I'm not alone. I stay away from soda now, or drink it extra slow and careful.

My mother gets the hiccups from eating turkey (just turkey - not necessarily turkey bacon). Apparently it's not uncommon. I'm not sure about the cause.

What part of the turkey does the bacon come from?
