What are the benefits of avocado that outshine their high Omega 6 (1689mg per 100 grams) to Omega 3 (110 mg per 100 grams)? Thats a ratio of 15:1. I don't want to be taking fish oil to accommodate the imbalance. How often do you eat avocado? I... (more)
This is something I have dealt with most my life. And I'm not talking like an annoying ache. I mean full on, screaming, ripping-your-guts kind of pain. I don't eat them so no need to tell me that part, heheh. But I've always wondered why these... (more)
What's the basis for using avocados in a paleo diet? According to what I can Google up, first mention of eating avocados date to only about 10 to 20 000 years BC. While the plant itself is assumed to be 350 million years old, I can't find any... (more)
Is it possible that 3.5 oz of guacamole a day could break me out? I try to eat low omega 6...but not much grassed take CLO. How long does it take to correct a ratio if omega 3 and 6 is stored by the body...then even if taking omega 3...how will my... (more)
My answer is going to be purely anecdotal, but maybe it'll give you some pointers.Since reading here and there that the desired ratio of Omega-6:Omega-3 for optimal health is argued to be 1:1, I tried yesterday to eat a diet vastly superior in... (more)
This is a sad day for me as I've learned that avocados give me gas (well, at least the 2 per day I have been eating recently). I love them not only because they taste amazing but they are so easy to bring to work and keep around for a snack.Any... (more)
Hey, I just started a 30 day paleo challenge, and I noticed that a huge amount of recipes contain avocado. I used to eat avocado as a child, but over the past few years I noticed that my stomach hurts intensely after eating anything with more than... (more)
Hi All- On Paleo I know that we focus mainly on dense carb sources when it comes to tracking our total carbs. I think my total carbs are too low then as when I've been looking at my total carb numbers I was including the carbs from avocados... (more)
Hello! I absolutely love eating avocados plain with a spoon for snacks or as part of a lunch/dinner. They are delicious by themselves, but sometimes I find myself wanting some other flavors in there. Does anyone have any suggestions about how... (more)
Like I want to make this dish that uses 3 avocados but I don't think they will all get ripe at the same time. so can I slice and freeze the one that ripens first? Is there any fruits or veggies that don't freeze well, especially if prepared a... (more)
Lately it seems like every 2-3 weeks or so I buy a batch of avocados and they have such a large pit that there is literally only like 1/4 inch of avocado "meat" between the skin and pit. I ultimately get about half of what I do out of a avocado... (more)
Quick question... has anyone found that eating an avocado a day is stalling their weight loss? I introduced one a few weeks ago to add some extra fat and calories into my diet. I am near my goal weight so I'm sure that could be a factor as well. I... (more)
Aside from the fact that our ancestors did not eat dairy, is there any scientific study as to why some paleo folks don't eat it? I figured weight would be falling off after almost 2 weeks and the scale has barely moved. I have been having 1/2 an... (more)
Hello everyone! I just recently started browsing the paleo hacks community. I've enjoyed a lot of the posts but was wondering if someone could answer a question I have regarding avocados. Does anyone know if the carbohydrates in avocado's are... (more)
If this has already been asked, sorry! I couldn't find it anywhere. Anyway.. I have been wondering for some time now why vegetable oil seems to be shunned in this community, along with canola oil. I have often seen them referred to as... (more)
http://www.marksdailyapple.com/healthy-oils/ http://www.marksdailyapple.com/dear-mark-canola-oil/ You can make coconut oil at home if you really needed to. But it's much easier to go to a store and buy it. And this is why health-conscious people... (more)
I eat a decent amount of avocado, but I have seen a few times that you shouldn't eat too much of them because of the high Poly Unsaturated Fats? Are PUFA's good or bad? why? Thanks in advance!
Whole food PUFAs (i.e. avocados) are fine. There's more problems with refined and processed PUFAs (e.g. vegetable oil).
Hey so I am wondering, is it too much avocado to eat 1/2 of one in the morning with my eggs, and another 1/2 avo with my salad at lunch? Also, Avocado are quite expensive. Can anyone suggest some alternate fats that they use to "beef" up their... (more)
I often eat 2 avocados a day, so I don't think 1 is too much. Butter is also good to 'beef up' meals
I've been going steady paleo for about 3 weeks now. Staples of my diet are fish (both fresh and canned), avocados, and green vegetables like kale, spinach and broccoli. I've been VLC and I feel fantastic. For the first 2 weeks I had barely any... (more)
I've read other thread regarding avocado consumption but seems like there's no clear answer so I'm gonna ask again: Is it ok to eat 2 avocados per day 5 times a week? I eat pretty clean paleo (almost none industrial seed oils, eat healthy... (more)
I'd say it's pretty hard to overdose on avocados. But what about the PUFAS?!?!?, you say? This ain't refined oxidized corn oil, folks. It's a raw, unprocessed, whole food.
I know that avocados contain polyols which are the P in FODMAPs. But I can't figure out if they are bothering me or not (I have digestive distress every day, but notice it more if I eat brassicas. Onions and garlic are totally out.) Do others... (more)
According to the folks at Whole 9 I should have thumb sized portion of fat with each meal but dang, I love avocados! I've taken to eating one a day as well as whatever other fat I use to cook with (usually olive or coconut oil.). I have lost... (more)
an avocado a day is fine. consider yourself fortunate that you can afford it.
What kind of fat do you use to cook your meats and to increase the fat intake in your diet. Personally, I have tried coconut oil and can not stand the taste of it (it is wonderful on the skin though). I have started to using Ghee and the label... (more)
